Yup, I think that is the same place. Ironically they have two different websites that portray two very different images of the B&B - so depending on which one you hit some little old lady and grandpa red neck could be in for an interesting and unexpected stay.

Hey Julie, I think I know which one you're talking about! Before we moved in together, my boyfriend lived not too far from it. (Near 4th and 25th SW---is that the same one?) We never had a reason to stay there, but I always wanted to support it.

As for straight couples staying there, I think that'd be pretty cool! Well, as long as the straight couples are gay-friendly. (Though I think that's pretty much a guarantee, unless there was some horrible mix-up at the travel agency. ;) )

Ok, just realized that straight couples staying at the gay bed and breakfast may not actually help foster gay tourism.

All that said, there is already some degree of gay tourism in Calgary - there is a really cute little bed and breakfast that was next to Ryan's old place and if it hadn't been crazy expensive Warren and I probably would have crashed there on occasion. Somehow though, Ryan's floor combined with our air mattress always won out.

Yay for the short cameo and the very amusing opening quote! Though quite truthfully, I never thought of Slap as an 'anti-homophobia' blog per se... just one reporting gay news. Maybe the very act of bringing gay-related news stories to greater attention is anti-homophobic in and of itself. Or pro... homo... something.

Anyway, the article is very cheerful and optimistic, but I personally believe there is no way Calgary will ever, ever, ever welcome a 'splash of pink' except with gritted teeth and some guys from the Tourism Board poking people in the back with knives. :-(

PS. Now go finish your thesis!
